The Blessings Through This Mess

Jesus, Take The Wheel

Blessings and "Hey, you suddenly have T1D" might not be what you'd expect in the same story. But blessings have been abundant throughout this journey.

I think God nudged me to buy a Hospital Indemnity plan during my open enrollment in 2024 (to be effective in 2025). I had never bought one before, but my daughter (who was 25 at the time and still on my insurance) was pregnant with twinz due in January 2025. The plan paid a nice little chunk of change when you get admitted to the hospital and some for every day you are in the hospital for up to 15 days. I figured, it was a very cheap plan and my daughter and her husband could use the payout if the twinz arrived in January (they were born January 1. Coincidence? Nope. God knew). I got to benefit from this plan as well.

I had been on unemployment since May and was struggling to find a new job. I hadn't had to look for a job for over 16 years and the whole job hunting landscape has changed significantly since then. Of course, with the multiple hospitalizations and recovery, it would have been difficult to work effectively anyway. The day my unemployment ended (you only get up to $275 for 14 weeks in Alabama) I had a job interview and was hired for one of the best jobs I have ever had.

From the moment my doc told me to go to the ER to this very day, my family and I have been blessed over and over again.

God has been good to us. Our church family has been a true example of the "hands and feet" of Christ.

From a friend driving me to the hospital and taking care of our dogs, to significant financial donations (remember, I lost my job the next day), we have been well taken care of.

I was visited by lots of friends and family during all my hospital stays. Lots of encouraging words through text messages, phone calls, and comments on social media.

Once I got home from the hospital (all 4 times), our church family brought us meals, mowed our lawn, and just made sure we were taken care of.

I can't list everything God did for us through our church family, bio family, and friends.

Not once were we ever in need. Our mortgage was paid. The medical bills were covered. Our yard was taken care of. We were fed.

Go To Church!

If you don't have a Church family, get one. Find a local Christian congregation and get involved. It is so wonderful to have people (some you don't even know!) care for you in times of need.

If you don't know Jesus, message me, we'll talk about it. Without Jesus, I could not do this. Without my church family, it would be so much harder.
